The graphs were created from data in the Inspection Returns of the 64th Regiment held in the Public Record Office, and show the height and age distribution of the various companies. What does this tell us? Well, it shows that the tallest men (in 1767 and 1768) were in the 1st Captain's Company (the Grenadier Company). We also get an idea for the average height of the British soldier in the 18th century, and their average age.
The figures for 1785, after the regiment returned to England, are for a period in which it is severely lacking in manpower.
