His Majesty's 64th Regiment of Foot is the oldest and largest recreated regiment in the U.S., with over 200 on the rolls nationally. The 64th has attained widespread acclaim by its participation in events from Quebec to Florida. The reconstructed unit was founded in 1959, and has gained full recognition by its descendant, The Staffordshire (Prince of Wales') Regiment in England. The Duke of York is the Colonel-in-Chief of the Staffordshire Regiment. The recreated 64th was inspected by, and passed in review for, H.M. Queen Elizabeth II and H.R.H. Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, in Boston on 10 July 1976. The King's and Regimental Colours were formally presented to the unit in an 18th century ceremony in 1977 by the then Colonel of the Staffordshire Regiment, Brigadier R.L. Hargroves, CBE, DL. The unit was invited to participate in the Staffordshire Regiment's Colours Presentation Parade in the Colchester Castle grounds, in England on 21 May 1983. During 1987 the 64th, together with 600 other reenactors, gave demonstrations at sites outside London under the sponsorship of English Heritage.
