The following transcripts of documents housed in the British Public Record Office concern individuals who served in the 64th Regiment during the American War of Independence. Although the accused were all members of one Regiment, the cases may be taken as representative of the types of charges (and punishments) seen throughout the British Army of the time.
More details of the charges can be found in the Articles of War, the rules which governed the life of the 18th century soldier.
There is also a collection of transcripts involving officers and men of the 55th Regiment of Foot, made available by Mark Tully.
Records concerning the 44th Regiment of Foot are also available online.
