Why, you may ask, is this a big deal?
Below the 5-foot level at Westham, our river is in prime condition for wade-fishing for smallmouth. Above 5 feet, it is mainly the province of paddlers. Whitewater paddling info from menko.com is a good intro to the James in Richmond for those unfamiliar with its topography.
