Becoming an Information Provider

We invite non-profit community organizations and agencies to participate in our endeavor, using our system to disseminate information to the public about your organization. Because we are on the WorldWide Web, your materials will be accessible to the whole world as well as Central Virginia.

What type of material might you place on the system? You can list straight-forward facts about your organization, such as your phone numbers, hours of operation, services provided, etc. You can describe your history and mission, and entice volunteers to join your efforts. You can ask for community input to your yearly goals and public events. You can include international sources of information that support your efforts locally. It is truly up to you what you include on your "home page!"

Organizations who post information on our system are known as "providers." To become a provider, you will need to have one or two members of your staff trained in how to create and maintain Web pages on our system. Information on how to "publish" your pages will be provided to you after you agree to become a "provider." While Central Virginia's Community Online does not charge organizations for putting their pages on our system, you will have to obtain an account from a Commercial Internet Service Provider (ISP) for your members to access our system in order to load and maintain your pages. However this can be a relatively inexpensive "personal" account rather than a costly "business" account with Web space.

If you would like to become part of this exciting community effort, please first check our policies and what your responsibilities will be to make sure you agree with them and then send e-mail to kguyre@www.cvco.org giving your name, your organization's name, a mailing address and phone number and you will be contacted.
