Highlights of March 20 Meeting

Swift Williams

Yesterday's HRSP meeting held at the Richmond Hotel and Conference Center was another great success! The food was delicious - a lot of talking and laughter making finishing one's meal difficult indeed. President Swift Williams welcomed everyone.

Elsie Pelfrey This was the celebration of HRSP's 10th birthday. Special recognition was given to the 29 original members (see photo below), 15 of whom are still active members. Elsie Pelfrey was presented with a special crystal "apple" for being the guiding force of the group for all of these years.
Nelson Taylor Nelson Taylor was presented a special crystal engraved plaque for going above and beyond the call of duty for the magnificent service he provides in keeping a close check on the goings and comings of the Virginia General Assembly.
Dr. Walter Witschey Our speaker was a delight - Dr. Walter Witschey, Director of The Science Museum of Virginia. Special emphasis was placed on the predictions, or lack thereof, of the outstanding inventions and technology that have been so prevalent in the 20th century. What does the future bring? One can only guess!

Our current membership is 451; 108 are also members of the Virginia Retired Teacher Association; and 39 are District C members. Our e-mail addresses are also mounting - 102 at last count.

Linda MacCleave, our secretary, is working on our HRSP web site - still "under construction," but add it to your favorites list and check it out occasionally - http://www.cvco.org/education/hrsp.

Our next meeting will be held on June 12, 2001 at The Place at Innsbrook. Hope to see you then.
