Highlights 2003-2004

  1. Scholarships and Grants
    • Awarded 23 scholarships to assist Henrico County graduates in their pursuit of career goals
    • Awarded 9 CapitalOne teacher grants for innovative initiatives in the classroom
    • Awarded 7 Great Expectation Grants to elementary schools to assist in improving the academic sucess of students
    • Awarded 5 Capital One teacher grants for financial literacy initiatives
  2. Learning Support
    • Provided 31 Learning Opportunity Scholarships
    • Provided a regional student-author discussion for area middle school students
    • Provided funding to support an elementary supplementary reading program
    • Sponsored SAT Preparation Assistance at two high schools
    • Supported national level competition with $3500 to assist with student expenses
    • Provided $6000 in support of robotics team competition
    • Distributed Teacher Appreciation Discount booklets for Henrico County teachers with discounts from area businesses
    • Funded the purchase of a sputter coater to be used with the electron microscope at the Center for Science, Mathematics, and Technology at Godwin High School
    • Provided funding for 4 parent/child seminars on financial management through the Parent Resource Center
    • Provided financial assistance for laptop repairs on an as-need basis
  3. Recognition of Excellence
    • Recognized 5 outstanding school food service employees with $100 awards
    • Recognized 5 outstanding school bus drivers with $100 awards
    • Co-sponsored Teacher of the Year with the Henrico Business Council recognizing 6 outstanding Henrico County teachers
    • Provided funding for SOL Celebrations in schools that became accredited in 2003
    • Sponsored the Above and Beyond the Call of Duty awards for support staff
  4. Fund Raising
    • Raised over $67,000 at the "Tee Off for Education" Golf Tournament (Corporate Sponsor: Mosely Architects)
    • Raised over $14,000 at the third annual Distinguished Alumni Dinner honoring Charles W. Steger. to establish a scholarship in Dr. Steger's honor (Sponsored by The Brink's Company)
    • Participated in the Contributor Choice Program through the United Way
    • Provided "Parenting Today's Children with John Rosemond" (Sponsored by Lifetouch)
  5. Communication
    • Maintained the Henrico Education Foundation web site--www.cvco.org/education/henedf
