About the Henrico Education Foundation

Since 1997, the Henrico Education Foundation, Inc. has established itself as the vehicle for individuals and businesses to support public education in Henrico County. By providing an opportunity for community participation in the school system, positive and enriching relationships continue to develop between the corporate sector and Henrico schools.

Our mission: to create innovative educational opportunities and recognize excellence.

Henrico County Public Schools is a nationally recognized system providing a quality learning experience for its students. The Foundation strives to link educators and students with financial resources in order to bring the school division to an even higher level of excellence.

During the past seven years, Henrico County students, teachers and staff benefited from over a million dollars raised by the Foundation. These funds were returned directly to program initiatives that were created to address specific needs, such as:

Learning Support
Providing financial assistance to support and extend educational learning opportunities for students has always been a major focus of the Foundation's initiatives. Individual schools rely on funding to provide educational resources to enrich the classrooms throughout the county. Learning Opportunity Scholarships are offered to students with financial need who may be precluded from enrichment activities such as field trips. Funding is also provided to support the Capital Area Agency on Aging's Foster Grandparent program that provides mentors and tutors for schools.

Instructional Grants
More than $25,000 is awarded annually in grants to enrich and enhance classrooms throughout Henrico County. Great Expectations Grants, Capital One Teacher Grants, and Financial Literacy Grants help to create new and innovative instructional practices. Through these opportunities teachers are provided an avenue to transform ideas into valuable learning opportunities for their students.

Student Scholarships
The Foundation is strongly committed to assist young adults as they continue their education beyond the high school level. By awarding over 20 scholarships throughout the year, opportunities become available to graduates as they pursue their career goals. Among these are scholarships established through the Distinguished Alumni event. This event highlights the accomplishments of prominent Henrico graduates who have distinguished themselves in their chosen field of endeavor, and a scholarship is created in their honor.

Recognition of Excellence
Employees throughout Henrico schools serve as catalysts for this award-winning system. Therefore, it is only appropriate that the Foundation provide recognitions of excellence. Aside from financial support, Board members take an active role in supporting the Teacher of the Year selection, the ABCD awards, and service awards for outstanding support personnel. This component of our mission is one of the most important as it serves to thank those individuals who have contributed to the success of Henrico County Public Schools.
