As some of you may remember, I reported at the last informational meeting that the proposed Eastern Recreation Center would have a similar footprint, more or less, of the Deep Run Recreational Center which will be built next year. Below is some information on the Deep Run facility:
In November 2000, Henrico County voters overwhelmingly approved a bond referendum, which included projects for Recreation and Parks. One of the projects approved was a recreation center in Deep Run Park.
A pre-planning study was completed for this project in 1998 which recommends a 22,000 square foot facility with an estimated cost of $5.4 million.
The recommended program for this center includes a small gymnasium, a large banquet room, lobby space, and a number of rooms for various recreational activities, including dance, exercise programs, computer room, etc.
This center can serve as a general model for other centers in the County, but it is important to note they can be programmed for different uses and activities. Obviously, community input and suggestions would play a huge role in how such a center would be designed and utilized.
It is very important to note that a center such as this could be designed so it could be expanded in the future.
It is anticipated that a minimum of 10-15 acres of land would be necessary for such a facility.
