The following is a listing of C.A.C. activities and actions that have been done to work towards getting a community center for the East End:
Organized East End communities & established regular meeting dates to plan and strategize.
Submitted several hundred-petition signitures from 31 communities to Board Supervisor Chairman Frank Thornton supporting a community center.
Met with Board of Supervisor Chairman Frank Thornton and Recreation & Parks Director Wes Malcolm to discuss the idea of a community center.
Visited and researched area community centers.
Met with Henrico Business Council and gained business support of a recreation center.
Sponsored 'Community Day' activities to inform community at-large about getting a community center and to encourage more participation in this effort.
Sponsored various youth activities to inform young people and to encourage their participation in this effort.
Applied for a federal tax ID number and opened a savings account at First Market Bank to recieve community donations to help support the cost of a recreation center building.
Organized a community penny drive fundraiser, utilizing several area businesses, to support the cost of a recreation center building.
Adults presented at monthly Board of Supervisors meetings supporting a community center for the East End.
Participated in Food Lion grocery store fundraiser to support the cost of a community center.
Youth presented at Monthly Board of Supervisors meeting in support of a recreation center for the East End of the County.
Organized letter writing campaigns to various groups (e.g. PTA Presidents, Board of Supervisors, Schools, Churches, Businesses, etc.) for support of a community center for the East End.
Submitted a community center proposal of specific services and activities to Board of Supervisor Chairman and met with him to discuss it.
