The Virginia Society for the Photographic Arts is dedicated to promoting art created through photographic processes. VSPA provides public expo-sure to photography as a fine art form and encourages the development of photographers. The society is a nonprofit artist organization, whose members live in all parts of the state. To further these endeavors, and as part of our 25th anniversary celebrations, the society is pleased to be reviving FreshWorks, an exhibition juried by a noted photography curator or photographer. We are also glad that another nonprofit artist organization, 1708 Gallery is hosting this exhibition.
The VSPA would like to thank Philip Brookman for the excellent job of selecting the photographs for this exhibition. FreshWorks was open to all photographers residing in the Commonwealth of Virginia. From the over 700 images submitted, Mr. Brookman selected 34 photographic works by 30 photographers. These photographs come from all corners of the state, and represent some of the best work being done by Virginia’s contemporary photographers. We extend special appreciation to Mr. Brookman for the essay he provided for the exhibition. VSPA would also like to acknowledge the staff and members of 1708 Gallery for their work on this exhibition. Special thanks to Georgianne Stinnett and Jennifer Van Winkle who coordinated for 1708 Gallery. VSPA also wants to thank Bill Altice for his design work on the exhibition catalog and the Business Press for printing it. Finally, congratulations to the photographers who’s photographs are in the show, and thank you for your help putting the FreshWorks’ exhibition and catalog together.
