Aesop, the Man Aesop was a citizen of ancient Greece. Scholars believe he was born circa 620 B.C. He was a slave by birth. It is believed he had three masters, the last of which gave him his freedom as a reward for his learning and wit. As a free man he was allowed to take an active interest in Grecian public affairs and eventually attained a position of high renown. His fables became well known throughout
Greece. These stories impart their lessons and morals with such wit
that they are universally understood in all cultures and periods of
history. Many of his sayings, such as "Birds of a feather flock
together" remain familiar to this day.
