Aesop, the Man

Aesop was a citizen of ancient Greece.  Scholars believe he was born circa 620 B.C.  He was a slave by birth.  It is believed he had three masters, the last of which gave him his freedom as a reward for his learning and wit.

As a free man he was allowed to take an active interest in Grecian public affairs and eventually attained a position of high renown.

His fables became well known throughout Greece.  These stories impart their lessons and morals with such wit that they are universally understood in all cultures and periods of history.  Many of his sayings, such as "Birds of a feather flock together" remain familiar to this day.

Now we are delighted to present five classic Aesop Fables to you and your students:

  • The Boy Who Cried Wolf!
  • Birds of a Feather
  • The Farmer and His Donkey
  • The Hare and the Tortoise
  • The Rooster and the Jewell

Fee: $1.00 per student.  There is a minimum fee of $150 for audiences of 150 or fewer.  Fees are to be remitted on the day of the performance.  Checks should be payable to "VCU-CSPA."
